DENTURE Repairs and Relines

When Does a Denture Need Relining?

There are a few clear signs that your denture is due for a reline. If you're experiencing any of the following, it's worth booking an appointment.

Your denture feels noticeably loose or shifts when you talk or chew. You're using more adhesive than you used to just to keep things in place. You've developed sore spots, redness or irritation on your gums. You've recently lost weight, which can change the shape of your ridges. You've had teeth extracted since your denture was made. It's been more than 12 months since your last denture check-up.

In most cases, a reline can extend the useful life of your denture by several years, it's a practical, cost-effective step before considering a full replacement.

WHY CHOOSE PMQ DENTURES FOR RELINES & REPAIRS

Professional denture repairs and relines from a team that understands how dentures are built.

Same-Day Service We know that being without your denture isn't an option. Most repairs and relines can be completed on the same day, so you're not left waiting while your denture is sent away to an external lab.

GLab-Trained Expertise Our clinical work is backed by over 15 years of hands-on dental technology experience. We understand the structural integrity of denture materials and how to repair them in a way that lasts, not just a quick fix that fails again in a few weeks.

Honest Assessment Not every denture is worth repairing. If a repair or reline won't give you a good long-term result, we'll tell you, and explain your options for a replacement instead. You'll never be pushed into unnecessary work.

One Local Clinic, Start to Finish Whether it's a five-minute tooth re-bond or a full hard reline, everything is handled in-house at our Port Macquarie clinic. No handoffs, no miscommunication between a clinician and a separate lab, just experienced professionals managing the whole job.

Don't Try to Repair Your Dentures at Home

It's tempting to reach for the superglue when a denture breaks, but household adhesives aren't designed for use in your mouth. They can release toxic chemicals, irritate your gums, and actually make the professional repair harder (and more expensive) when you eventually bring it in.

If a tooth has come loose, keep it safe and bring it with you to your appointment. If the denture has cracked or broken, stop wearing it and call us, continuing to wear a damaged denture can cause cuts, sore spots and further damage to the prosthesis.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What types of reline are available?

We offer three types. A hard reline uses the same durable acrylic as your denture base and suits most patients. A soft reline uses a cushioned material, which is better for sensitive or thin gums, healing ridges, or post-surgical cases. And a temporary (conditioning) reline uses a short-term material to help inflamed tissue settle before a permanent reline is carried out. Your prosthetist will recommend the right option after assessing your mouth.

  • How much does a denture reline cost?

The cost depends on the type of reline and the condition of your denture. We provide a quote after assessing your denture in person. PMQ Dentures accepts NSW Government Oral Health Fee for Service vouchers, and we're happy to discuss payment options.

  • How long does a reline take?

Most relines can be completed within a single appointment. In some cases particularly where a lab-processed hard reline is needed for the most precise fit, we may need your denture for a few hours. We'll let you know what to expect before you leave.

  • How often should dentures be relined?

As a general guide, every two to three years, but it depends on how quickly your mouth changes. Patients who've recently had extractions may need a reline sooner. An annual check-up is the best way to catch fit issues early before they become uncomfortable.

  • What kind of denture repairs can you do?

We handle most common repairs in-clinic, including fractured or cracked bases, teeth that have broken off or come loose, worn or chipped denture teeth, bent or snapped clasps on partial dentures, and dentures that have broken in half. If the base is damaged but the teeth are still in good condition, we can also rebase your denture, replacing all the pink acrylic while keeping your existing teeth, which avoids the cost of a completely new set.

  • Can any denture be repaired?

Most can, but it depends on the extent and location of the damage and the overall condition of the denture. If a denture has been repaired multiple times in the same spot, or the acrylic has become brittle with age, we may recommend a new denture rather than another repair. You'll always get an honest assessment.

  • Do I need an appointment for a repair, or can I walk in?

We recommend calling ahead on 0434 775 444 so we can allow enough time to assess and complete your repair on the same day. If it's urgent, call us and we'll do our best to fit you in.

  • My denture was made somewhere else, can you still reline or repair it?

Yes. You don't need to have had your denture made at PMQ Dentures for us to reline or repair it. We work on dentures from any clinic or provider.
